Around The Ground Report: Zimbabwe vs Pakistan 1st Test 2013 - Part 2
Kyle Jarvis left for county cricket and refused to sign a contract with Zimbabwe Cricket. He was fed up with the off field battles with ZC. His decision though sad is understandable. And we can for see more taking up this option if it presented itself. Some were also called up from club cricket in the UK but they declined to come.
Sponsorship is still an issue and Old Mutuals decision to sponsor school boy cricket and not the national team, which they used to sponsor seems to be a message to ZC. Corporate Zimbabwe would be willing to sponsor the team but their track record of maladministration does not instil any confidence.
Overheard at the ground, When Ajmal ran to collect a ball at the boundary Chris Mpofu said Ajmal was lucky he wasn't playing because he is the only one who can pick him. And Ajmal replied and said if Chris was bowling when he was batting he would have scored his 50.
The sledging from the crowd got to Shingi Masakadza at one point that he alerted the pitch security and pointed out the offending supporter, but the security guard did not seem to know what to do or he was reluctant to confront him. He didn't even warn the fan.
