Whats Beef?
What is the main motivation of beef in Zimbabwe?
Nil. There is no real beef at all.
Does beef play a role in Hip-hop, is it a necessary stage of the development of the movement?

(We picked up this rant from mUnetsi on twitter in regards to the supposed Beef going on in the Zimbabwe Hip Hop industry)
In my experiences sometimes beef is fanned by folk who have nothing to do with the music, cats around the artists. Sometimes people target people because it's easier to fight someone than a system. Sit down and let me school you. This is real talk, unbiased. Don't catch feelings youngins.
Zimbabwean hiphop has traditionally been a scene with very talented artists with little to show for the time and dedication they put in. It has birthed such names as Metaphysics, Kingpinn, Munetsi and other artists who have left an indelible mark. It incorporates all the different varieties of hiphop from the hardcore underground, politically conscious, social commentary rap music to the more krunk and ‘commercial’ type. The one thing about the hiphop scene in Zimbabwe is that its clear that no matter the type of rap you do, if you're in it, then you're in it for the love.
Hip hop dance popularly known as breaking has grown tremendously over the past seven years. The creation of dance competitions like Undisputed, Jibilika, Breakdown and the Zimbabwean edition of the international b-boy championships Battle of the Year (BOTY) have immensely impacted on the development of the dance form.
When you look at what’s going on in the music or any music you know rock n roll has been as misogynist, as violent, as any music on the planet. If you actually listen to a lot jazz there is those elements in it, the drug culture within jazz. You hear it in music but it doesn’t get demonised in the same way in growing up in the United States, the sense that I always had was because unlike a lot of other music and a lot other forms of cultures, hip hop had a way of activating your, it had a way of making you start to look at the world in a different way.
We take a snippet from a dialogue between one of the pioneers of Hip hop in Zimbabwe's Metaphysics as he talks to his younger brother Carlprit in a candid freestyle skit.
Africa is where Hip Hop originated from!
Metaphysics and Carlprit dialogue about the origination of Hip Hop.
Proud to Be a Zimbabwean
My take on the recent Lil Kim, Fat Joe and Ciara show in Harare is probably one sided, but it's a side that many people share with me. I am a Zimbabwean hip-hop artist who puts on a hell of a show but just because greedy cats want to keep such platforms for their 'homies', I couldn't get on the line-up when it's clear I am one of Zim's most prolific rappers at this moment. It’s ridiculous because the promoters don't realize that the industry will never grow until they have faith in the local artists.
